Before you begin

Know what to expect in your first session.

A plain-language guide to before, during and after an initial consultation — so you can arrive settled, without pressure to perform or predict an outcome.

01

Before you arrive

Protect the time, choose a quiet space if you are online, and bring only what you are ready to share. A few notes can help — a perfect explanation is not required.

02

During the consultation

Usually about 90 minutes. A conversation to be heard, ask about hypnosis, and decide together whether the approach may be appropriate for you.

03

Afterwards

You may feel reflective, tired, or much as you did before — responses vary. If you agree to continue, timing and fees are discussed together. There is no guaranteed outcome.

What to have ready

Once the centre has replied and you have agreed a time, treat the session as protected time. You do not need a perfect script — only a willingness to talk about what brought you here.

  • Arrive or join a few minutes early if you can
  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Optional: jot a few words about what has been difficult
  • Share only what you are ready to share

If you are in crisis or need urgent care, see urgent help first — do not wait for a consultation reply.

What the consultation is for

The first session is usually about about 90 minutes. It is time to be heard, to ask questions about hypnosis, and to discuss whether the approach may be appropriate for you. Gerald explains the proposed approach and practical next steps. You remain able to ask questions and to decide how to proceed.

Hypnotherapy is complementary support. It does not replace medical or mental health care, and it is not an emergency service.

Common questions

Will I lose control?

In collaborative hypnotherapy you remain aware, able to communicate, and able to stop. It is not sleep, and it is not entertainment stage hypnosis.

Do I need to prepare a full life history?

No. Share enough for Gerald to understand why you are reaching out. You can ask questions at any time and pause if something feels too much.

Is this an emergency service?

No. Hypnotherapy is complementary support by appointment. It does not replace medical or mental health care. If you need urgent help, use appropriate emergency or crisis services first.

If you are meeting online

Use a stable internet connection, headphones if helpful, and a private space where you will not be interrupted. Keep your camera at a comfortable angle and test your link a few minutes before the agreed time.
