Understanding that You are Not your Feelings with Hypnotherapy

The idea “You are not your feelings” emphasizes that your emotions are not your identity. They are temporary experiences, not defining characteristics.

Here’s a hypnotherapy script to help you understand that you are not your feelings:

Title: “Separating Self from Emotions”

Induction:

(Soft, calming music starts playing. Speak in a gentle, soothing tone.)

“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you’ll learn to separate yourself from your feelings. Allow yourself to relax, letting go of any tension or stress. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, feel your body relax, starting from the crown of your head, down to your toes.

Imagine yourself in a peaceful, safe place, where you feel completely comfortable and at ease. This could be a beach, a forest, or a cozy room – wherever you feel most relaxed. Take a moment to visualize this place, noticing the sensations, sights, and sounds that surround you.

Deepening:

“Now, imagine a warm, soothing light beginning to fill your body. This light represents relaxation and calmness, spreading throughout your entire being. As it fills you, feel your muscles release any remaining tension, your mind quieting, and your heart rate slowing.

With each breath, allow this light to grow brighter, filling any areas of discomfort or stress. Imagine this light washing away any worries, concerns, or negative thoughts, leaving you feeling serene and peaceful.

Separating Self from Emotions:

“Now, imagine a mirror in front of you. This mirror represents your emotional self. As you look into the mirror, notice the emotions that arise. You might see a reflection of happiness, sadness, anger, or fear. Acknowledge these emotions, but remember, they are not you. They are simply feelings that pass through you, like clouds in the sky.

Imagine each emotion as a separate entity, floating outside of your body. See them as temporary visitors, not permanent residents. You are the observer, the witness to these emotions. You are not your feelings; you are the one who experiences them.

Reframing:

“Repeat the following phrase to yourself, allowing the truth of these words to sink deeply into your mind: ‘I am not my emotions. I am the one who experiences emotions, but they do not define me.’ Feel the weight of this understanding, the freedom that comes with knowing you are not bound by your emotions.

Imagine a sense of detachment, a sense of observing your emotions without becoming them. You are the calm, quiet center of the storm, while your emotions are the temporary, outer weather.

Empowerment:

“Remember, you have the power to choose how you respond to your emotions. You can acknowledge them, validate them, and then let them go. You are the master of your emotional domain, and you can decide which emotions you want to entertain and which ones you want to release.

As you continue to breathe deeply, feel a sense of empowerment growing within you. You are not a slave to your emotions; you are the wise, compassionate observer, guiding yourself through life’s challenges.

Conclusion:

“Take a moment to notice how you feel now. Notice the sense of separation between yourself and your emotions. Remember that you are not your feelings; you are the one who experiences them. Carry this understanding with you, using it to navigate life’s ups and downs with greater ease and wisdom.

When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes, feeling refreshed, renewed, and empowered to observe your emotions from a place of calm, wise awareness.”

Post-Hypnotic Suggestion:

“From this day forward, whenever you feel overwhelmed by your emotions, take a deep breath, and remember: ‘I am not my emotions. I am the one who experiences emotions, but they do not define me.’ Allow this truth to guide you, and may you walk in peace, wisdom, and emotional freedom.”

Shadow Work Part B Healing the Inner Child, Feeling unsafe to express certain feelings with Hypnotherapy

Remind yourself that it is safe and healthy to feel and express these emotions. Allow yourself to feel angry, sad, or cry. Keeping your feelings bottled up will do you no good. If you truly want to heal your inner child, you have to allow yourself to feel any and all emotions that pop up.

Here’s a sample hypnotherapy script for exploring and healing the inner child, specifically addressing feelings of unsafety when expressing certain emotions:

Induction

(Soft, calming music plays in the background)

“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you’ll explore and heal the wounds of your inner child. Find a comfortable seated or lying position, close your eyes, and take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Imagine yourself standing in a peaceful, serene environment. With each breath, feel your body relax, starting from the crown of your head, down to your toes. Allow any tension or stress to melt away, like the gentle lapping of waves on a calm shore.

Regression to Childhood

“Now, visualize yourself as a child, around 5-7 years old. See yourself playing, laughing, and being carefree. Notice the surroundings, the sights, and the sounds. What are you wearing? What’s your favorite toy or activity?

As you connect with your inner child, allow yourself to feel any emotions that arise. Notice if there’s a sense of joy, curiosity, or perhaps a hint of sadness or fear. Gently acknowledge these feelings, and remind yourself that you’re here to support and heal your inner child.

Identifying Suppressed Emotions

“Now, imagine a subtle, invisible barrier within yourself. This barrier represents the parts of yourself that you’ve learned to hide or suppress. Allow yourself to explore this barrier, noticing any emotions or sensations that arise.

What feelings have you been conditioned to hide or suppress? Are there certain emotions that make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe to express? Allow yourself to acknowledge these feelings, without judgment.

Exploring the Source

“Imagine a memory from your childhood where you felt unsafe to express certain emotions. It might be a specific event, a conversation, or a situation where you felt judged, rejected, or criticized.

Allow yourself to witness this scene without judgment. Notice the emotions that arise, and acknowledge the sensations in your body. What are you feeling? What are your needs and desires in this moment?

Shadow Work

“As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine a figure standing beside you. This is your shadow self, a representation of the parts of yourself that you’ve hidden or denied. Your shadow self holds the repressed emotions, desires, and wounds from your childhood.

Notice the emotions and sensations in your shadow self. Are there any feelings of anger, sadness, or fear? Allow yourself to acknowledge and accept these parts of yourself, without judgment.

Healing and Integration

“Now, imagine a warm, golden light beginning to flow from your heart, filling your entire body. This light represents self-love, compassion, and healing. As it spreads, it reaches your inner child, soothing any wounds and calming any fears.

Visualize your inner child receiving this nurturing energy, feeling seen, heard, and loved. Allow your inner child to know that they are worthy of love, care, and acceptance – exactly as they are.

As your shadow self receives this light, imagine any repressed emotions and wounds beginning to release and integrate into your conscious awareness. Allow yourself to forgive and let go of any self-criticism, shame, or guilt.

Reparenting and Reassurance

“Now, imagine yourself as a compassionate, wise, and loving adult, speaking directly to your inner child. Offer reassurance, support, and guidance. What do you need to hear in this moment?

Speak kindly to your inner child, using gentle, loving words. Remind them that they are safe to express their emotions, and that their feelings are valid and worthy of acknowledgment.

Empowerment and Expression

“Imagine yourself expressing your emotions freely, without fear of judgment or rejection. Allow yourself to feel and express a range of emotions, from joy and excitement to sadness and anger.

Visualize yourself speaking your truth, setting healthy boundaries, and asserting your needs. Feel empowered to express yourself authentically, knowing that your emotions are a natural and vital part of your human experience.

Integration and Awakening

“As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine yourself integrating the lessons and insights from this journey. Your inner child and shadow self are now more aligned with your conscious awareness, allowing you to access greater self-compassion, understanding, and wholeness.

When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Take a moment to notice how you’re feeling before getting up and going about your day. Remember to be kind and gentle with yourself as you continue on your path of healing and growth.”

Post-Hypnotic Suggestion

“Whenever you feel the need to suppress or hide your emotions, recall the sense of safety and empowerment you experienced during this session. Allow yourself to express your feelings freely, trusting that you are worthy of love, care, and acceptance – exactly as you are.”
