  • Let go of expectationsRelease the control and power that the offending person and situation have had in your life.
  • Make a commitmentConsciously try not to talk disparagingly about those who’ve hurt you.

Here is a sample hypnotherapy script for developing forgiveness:

Induction

“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you’ll learn to let go of resentment and cultivate forgiveness. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down, and take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Imagine yourself standing in a peaceful, relaxing place. It could be a beach, a forest, or a mountain meadow. Allow yourself to fully immerse in this scene, taking in the sights, sounds, and sensations.

As you breathe in, imagine fresh, calm air filling your lungs. As you breathe out, imagine any tension, anxiety, or stress leaving your body. Repeat this process several times, allowing yourself to relax more with each breath.

Deepening

“Now, I’d like you to imagine a gentle, soothing warmth spreading through your body, starting at the crown of your head and flowing down to your toes. As this warmth spreads, it’s calming your mind, relaxing your body, and quieting your nervous system.

Imagine yourself becoming heavier, more relaxed, and more calm with each breath. Your eyelids are growing heavy, and your body is feeling more and more relaxed.

Forgiveness

“Now, I want you to focus on the concept of forgiveness. Imagine forgiveness growing within you, filling your heart and mind with peace, understanding, and compassion.

Imagine yourself letting go of resentment, anger, and bitterness towards others. Imagine yourself releasing the weight of past hurts and betrayals, and embracing the freedom of forgiveness.

Visualization

“Imagine yourself in a scenario where you’re having trouble forgiving someone. It could be a family member, a friend, or even yourself.

Imagine yourself taking a deep breath, and as you exhale, imagine any anger, resentment, or bitterness leaving your body. Imagine yourself letting go of the need for revenge, and embracing the power of forgiveness.

Imagine yourself speaking words of forgiveness to the person, and imagine them receiving your forgiveness with gratitude and understanding. Imagine the weight of resentment lifting off your shoulders, and the feeling of peace and freedom that follows.

Counting and Awakening

“As you continue to relax and visualize yourself forgiving others, I’ll count from five to one, and when I reach one, you’ll slowly open your eyes, feeling refreshed, renewed, and ready to take on your day.

Five… your body is relaxed, your mind is calm.

Four… you’re feeling more understanding and compassionate towards others.

Three… you’re imagining yourself letting go of resentment and anger.

Two… you’re feeling a sense of peace and freedom from forgiveness.

One… you’re ready to cultivate forgiveness in your daily life. Open your eyes, feeling refreshed and renewed.”

Post-Hypnotic Suggestions

“From now on, whenever you feel resentment or anger towards someone, you’ll remember to take a deep breath and forgive. You’ll trust that forgiveness will bring you peace, understanding, and freedom from the past.

You’ll prioritize building strong, supportive relationships with others, and you’ll cultivate a sense of empathy and compassion in all your interactions.

Remember, forgiveness is a choice, and it’s within your power to choose. You will continue to grow and develop in your ability to forgive, and you will live a life of peace, love, and compassion.”
