Overthinking is not caused by too much thought, it’s caused by fear.
Here’s a hypnotherapy script aimed at reducing overthinking caused by fear:
Induction
(Soft, calming music plays in the background)
“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you’ll let go of overthinking and fear. Allow yourself to settle in, getting comfortable and relaxed. Take a deep breath in… and out… Feel your body let go, starting from your toes, up to the top of your head. As you exhale, imagine any tension, stress, or anxiety leaving your body.”
Deepening
“Imagine yourself standing at the edge of a peaceful forest, surrounded by tall trees and a gentle breeze. With each breath, feel your feet connecting with the ground, becoming more grounded and centered. As you inhale, visualize fresh, calming air filling your lungs. As you exhale, imagine any doubts, worries, or fears floating away on the wind. Allow yourself to let go, surrendering to the present moment.”
Identifying the Fear-Driven Thoughts
“Now, imagine a thought pattern that causes you to overthink. Perhaps it’s a fear of failure, fear of rejection, or fear of uncertainty. Allow the thought to surface, but don’t engage with it yet. Simply observe it, acknowledging the emotions that arise. How did you feel in that moment? What emotions did you experience?”
Understanding the Futility of Overthinking
“Take a step back and examine this habit of overthinking. Recognize that it’s a attempt to control the uncontrollable, to predict the unpredictable. Understand that overthinking only leads to more anxiety, more fear, and more uncertainty. Acknowledge that your mind is a powerful tool, but it’s not a crystal ball. It’s not meant to predict the future or control every outcome.”
Releasing the Need for Control
“Imagine a rope in your hands, representing your need for control. See the rope begin to unravel, symbolizing your release from the need to control every detail. As the rope dissolves, feel the weight of responsibility lifting, allowing you to trust in your abilities and the natural flow of life. Repeat to yourself:
* ‘I trust that I can handle whatever comes my way.’
* ‘I release the need to control every outcome.’
* ‘I have faith in my abilities and the universe.'”
Fostering Self-Trust and Calmness
“Visualize a warm, soothing light filling your body, representing self-trust and calmness. As this light grows, it calms your mind, quieting the thoughts and worries. Imagine yourself handling challenges with ease, trusting in your abilities and the present moment. Allow this sense of self-trust and calmness to become your guiding force.”
Empowering Mindfulness
“From this place of self-trust and calmness, repeat the following affirmations to yourself:
* ‘I am present in this moment.’
* ‘I trust myself and my abilities.’
* ‘I let go of overthinking and fear.'”
Integration and Awakening
“Take a few deep breaths, feeling the insights and new perspectives integrating into your subconscious mind. As you slowly come back to full awareness, remember that you’ve been freed from the cycle of overthinking and fear. Carry this sense of self-trust and calmness with you, applying it to your daily life. When you feel the urge to overthink, recall this feeling of calmness and remind yourself that you’ve got this.”
Counting Up
“When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Take a deep breath in, feeling refreshed, renewed, and more at peace. As you return to your day, remember that you’ve taken a significant step towards self-awareness, growth, and positive change.”
