Emotional pain is also sometimes referred to as psychic pain, spiritual pain, psychalgia, emotional suffering, psychological pain, algopsychalia, soul pain, or mental pain. While it is often dismissed as less serious than physical pain, it is important that emotional pain is taken seriously. A number of common feelings associated with emotional pain can impact physical and mental health.

Releasing Emotional Pain that is Trapped in your Physical Body with Hypnotherapy

Releasing emotional pain that is trapped in your physical body can be a challenging but ultimately liberating process.

Here are some steps you can take:

1. Acknowledge and Acceptance: Recognize the emotional pain you are experiencing and acknowledge it. Accept that the pain is real, and it’s not just in your head.

3. Breathwork: Deep breathing can help to calm the nervous system and release physical tension. Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.

4. Body Scan: Lie down or sit comfortably, and bring your attention to different parts of your body. Scan your body from toes to head, and as you breathe in, imagine fresh air and relaxation entering each area. As you exhale, imagine any tension or pain leaving your body.

5. Emotional Labeling: As you scan your body, acknowledge and label any emotions that arise. For example, “I feel sadness in my chest” or “I feel anxiety in my stomach.”

6. Physical Release: Once you’ve identified the emotions and their physical locations, try to let go of the physical tension associated with each emotion. For example, if you’re feeling sadness in your chest, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine any sadness or grief leaving your chest. You can also try physical releases like yawning, stretching, or shaking your body.

8. Grounding Techniques: Visualize roots growing from the base of your spine, deep into the earth. Imagine any emotional pain or energy flowing down these roots and being released into the earth.

9. Self-Compassion: Practice self-compassion by speaking kindly to yourself. Remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can, and that it’s okay to release emotional pain.

10. Seek Support: Consider seeking support from a therapist, counselor, or support group. Having a safe and non-judgmental space to process your emotions can be incredibly helpful.

Remember, releasing emotional pain that is trapped in your physical body takes time, patience, and compassion. Be kind to yourself and remember that you’re not alone.

Induction

“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you can relax, let go, and release emotional pain that is trapped in your physical body. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, feel your body relax, starting from the top of your head, down to your toes. Allow your eyelids to grow heavy, and your breathing to slow down. With each breath, feel yourself becoming more relaxed, more calm, and more peaceful.”

Deepening

“Imagine yourself standing at the edge of a peaceful lake, surrounded by tall trees that block out any distractions. The air is calm, and the sound of the water lapping against the shore is soothing. Take a few moments to imagine yourself in this peaceful place, and notice how your body feels, how your mind feels. Allow yourself to let go of any tension, any anxiety, and any self-doubt.”

Body Scan

“Now, bring your attention to your toes. Imagine any tension, any pain, any emotional pain leaving your toes, and melting away like ice in the warm sun. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine any remaining tension or pain leaving your toes.

“Move your attention up through your body, scanning each area, allowing any tension, any pain, any emotional pain to leave. Imagine your body releasing any emotional pain, like a balloon letting go of its air.

“As you scan your body, notice any areas where you may be holding onto emotional pain. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine that area of your body releasing any emotional pain, like a door opening, allowing any emotional pain to leave.

“Continue to breathe deeply, and imagine your body releasing any remaining emotional pain, like a flower unfolding its petals, revealing its beauty and tranquility.”

Releasing Emotional Pain

“Now, take a moment to any area of your body where you may be holding onto emotional pain. Imagine that area of your body speaking to you, telling you what it needs to release. Listen to its wisdom, and allow yourself to let go of any pain that is no longer serving you.

“Imagine any emotional pain leaving your body, like a cloud disappearing in the sky. Imagine yourself feeling lighter, feeling freer, and feeling more at peace.

“Repeat the following affirmations to reinforce the release of emotional pain:

* ‘I release all emotional pain, and let go of any tension or stress.’

* ‘I am free from emotional pain, and fill myself with peace and love.’

* ‘I trust in my body’s ability to heal and let go of any emotional trauma.'”

Awakening

“Now, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes. Notice how you feel, notice how your body feels. You may feel a sense of calmness, a sense of peace, and a sense of release.

“Take a few moments to journal or reflect on what you experienced during this session. Notice any changes in your body or emotions. Remember to be kind to yourself, and celebrate your progress.”
