This test has given us an idea of your level of suggestibility, and it will help us tailor future hypnotherapy sessions to your unique needs and responses.
Here is a sample hypnotherapy suggestibility test script:
Introduction:
“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where we’ll explore your ability to respond to suggestions. This test is designed to help us understand how you respond to hypnotic suggestions, and it will give us an idea of how well you’ll respond to future hypnotherapy sessions.
Please get comfortable, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, allow any tension or stress to leave your body. You’re about to embark on a fascinating journey into your subconscious mind.”
Test 1: Arm Levitation
“Imagine your left arm is feeling light, as if a helium balloon is attached to your wrist. As you breathe in, feel the sensation of lightness spreading from your wrist to your shoulder.
Now, slowly lift your left arm off the couch or chair, allowing it to rise on its own. Don’t try to lift it; just let it happen. As your arm rises, repeat after me: ‘My arm is getting lighter and lighter.’
Notice how your arm responds to the suggestion. Does it feel lighter? Does it rise effortlessly?”
Test 2: Finger Sliding
“Place your hands flat on your lap or on the couch, with your fingers extended. Imagine a small, gentle breeze blowing across your fingers, causing them to slide apart ever so slightly.
As you breathe in, feel the breeze blowing stronger, gently pushing your fingers apart. Repeat after me: ‘My fingers are sliding apart, effortlessly and easily.’
Notice how your fingers respond to the suggestion. Do they slide apart on their own?”
Test 3: Eye Closure
“Imagine a warm, soothing light filling your eyes, making them feel heavy and sleepy. As you breathe in, feel the light becoming more intense, making your eyelids feel heavier and heavier.
Repeat after me: ‘My eyelids are getting heavier and heavier, and I can feel myself becoming more relaxed.’
Notice how your eyes respond to the suggestion. Do they feel heavy? Do they start to droop or close?”
Test 4: Imagery
“Imagine yourself walking on a peaceful, sandy beach at sunset. Feel the warm sand beneath your feet, the cool breeze on your skin, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
As you breathe in, imagine yourself becoming more immersed in the scene, feeling more relaxed and calm with each passing moment. Repeat after me: ‘I am calm, relaxed, and at peace on this peaceful beach.’
Notice how vividly you can imagine the scene, and how relaxed you feel in response to the suggestion.”
Conclusion:
“Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes. You’re now back in the present moment, feeling more relaxed and aware of your response to hypnotic suggestions.
This test has given us an idea of your level of suggestibility, and it will help us tailor future hypnotherapy sessions to your unique needs and responses. Remember, the more you practice responding to hypnotic suggestions, the more effective your hypnotherapy sessions will be.”
