Imagine yourself in a social situation, surrounded by people. Notice how you feel when someone starts gossiping. Allow yourself to acknowledge these feelings, without judgment. You may have been engaging in gossip as a way to connect with others, to feel included, or to avoid feeling left out. But deep down, you know that gossip can be hurtful, damaging, and unfulfilling.

Here is a hypnotherapy script to help someone say NO to gossip that masquerades as connection:

Induction

(Soft, calming music plays in the background)

“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you’ll explore your relationship with gossip and connection. Allow yourself to settle in, getting comfortable and relaxed. Take a deep breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Feel your body letting go of any tension, allowing yourself to sink deeper into relaxation with each breath.”

Deepening

“Imagine yourself standing at the top of a staircase, with each step leading you deeper into relaxation. With each step down, you feel more calm, more centered, and more connected to your inner self. Take a step down, and feel your body relax further. Take another step down, and feel your mind quiet. Take one more step down, and allow yourself to let go of any thoughts or distractions.”

Identifying the Pattern

“Now, imagine yourself in a social situation, surrounded by people. Notice how you feel when someone starts gossiping.

Do you feel a pang of excitement, or a twinge of discomfort?

Allow yourself to acknowledge these feelings, without judgment. You may have been engaging in gossip as a way to connect with others, to feel included, or to avoid feeling left out. But deep down, you know that gossip can be hurtful, damaging, and unfulfilling.”

Reframing the Relationship

“As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine a conversation with someone who is gossiping. See yourself feeling confident, and calm. Hear yourself saying, ‘I’m not interested in discussing that. Let’s talk about something else.’ or ‘I’m not comfortable gossiping. Can we focus on [positive topic] instead?’ Practice saying these words, feeling the power and conviction behind them.”

Empowering the NO

“Now, visualize a bright, protective light surrounding you. This light represents your boundaries, your values, and your commitment to uplifting conversations. Whenever someone tries to engage you in gossip, imagine this light growing stronger, reminding you to stay true to yourself. Repeat to yourself, ‘I say NO to gossip that masquerades as connection. I choose conversations that uplift, inspire, and respect others.'”

Integration

“As you integrate this newfound awareness and confidence, imagine yourself navigating social situations with ease. You’re no longer drawn into gossip, and you’re no longer afraid of being left out. You’re free to engage in meaningful conversations, to connect with others on a deeper level, and to cultivate relationships that nourish your mind, heart, and soul.”
