The Butterfly Dream – (also from Zhuangzi): A story exploring themes of reality and identity when Zhuangzi dreams he’s a butterfly.
The Butterfly Dream, also known as “The Dream of the Butterfly,” is a famous Chinese fable written by the philosopher Zhuangzi (also known as Chuang Tzu) in the 4th century BCE. Here’s a brief summary:
Zhuangzi dreamt he was a butterfly, a beautiful butterfly flitting about, enjoying himself, and doing as he pleased. He didn’t know he was Zhuangzi. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakable Zhuangzi. But he didn’t know if he was Zhuangzi who had dreamt he was a butterfly or a butterfly dreaming he was Zhuangzi.
