Imagine yourself in a situation where you typically feel impatient or self-critical. Perhaps it’s when making mistakes, or when faced with uncertainty, or when comparing yourself to others.

Here’s a hypnotherapy script to help develop patience and self-compassion:

Induction

(Soft, calming music plays in the background)

“Welcome to this hypnotherapy session, where you’ll cultivate patience and self-compassion. Find a comfortable seated or lying position, close your eyes, and take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Imagine yourself standing in a serene forest, surrounded by tall trees, their leaves rustling gently in the breeze. Feel the tranquility of this natural setting, and allow yourself to let go of any tension or stress.

Deepening

“As you breathe in, imagine fresh, calming air filling your lungs. As you breathe out, imagine any self-criticism, doubt, or frustration leaving your body. With each breath, feel yourself becoming more relaxed, more calm, and more compassionate towards yourself.

Imagine a warm, soothing light beginning to fill your body, starting at the crown of your head. As this light travels down through your face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, chest, abdomen, lower back, hips, legs, and feet, it dissolves any remaining tension or discomfort.

Patience and Self-Compassion

“Now, imagine yourself in a situation where you typically feel impatient or self-critical. Perhaps it’s when making mistakes, or when faced with uncertainty, or when comparing yourself to others.

Visualize yourself in this situation, and notice how you feel. Notice the physical sensations, the emotions, and the thoughts that arise.

As you observe yourself in this situation, repeat the following phrases to yourself:

‘I am patient and kind towards myself, exactly as I am.’

‘I understand that mistakes are opportunities for growth and learning.’

‘I trust that I am doing the best I can, and that’s enough.’

‘I choose to treat myself with compassion, understanding, and patience.’

Anchoring

“As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine a small, peaceful anchor appearing in your mind’s eye. This anchor represents your patient and self-compassionate state.

Whenever you feel impatient or self-critical, imagine this anchor appearing before you. Visualize its peaceful, calming presence, and repeat the phrases to yourself once more.

Self-Compassion Exercise

“Imagine that you’re speaking to a dear friend who’s struggling with the same issue. What words of kindness, encouragement, and support would you offer?

Now, imagine that you’re offering those same words to yourself. Repeat them to yourself, with conviction and compassion:

‘You are doing the best you can, and that’s enough.’

‘You are strong, capable, and resilient.’

‘You are worthy of patience, kindness, and compassion – from yourself and others.’

Future Pace

“Imagine yourself in the future, having successfully cultivated patience and self-compassion in various situations. See yourself handling challenges with ease, responding rather than reacting, and treating yourself with kindness and understanding.

Counting Up

“When I count to three, you’ll return to a state of heightened awareness, feeling refreshed, renewed, and empowered with patience and self-compassion.

One… Your mind is becoming more alert, your heart more open.

Two… You’re feeling more centered, more grounded.

Three… You’re back to full awareness, feeling refreshed and renewed.”
