Dharma Therapy Healing with Clinical Hypnotherapy™

Session 5: Purpose (Dharma)

Full Professional Hypnotherapy Session

Theme: “Discovering Your Authentic Purpose”

Duration: 60–90 Minutes

Primary Goal:
To guide the client in exploring their deepest values, life meaning, personal strengths, future direction, contribution to others, and authentic identity. Through clinical hypnotherapy, future-self visualization, and therapeutic reflection, the client begins aligning daily choices with their long-term vision and purpose.

Clinical Note: This script is designed as a professional template for trained hypnotherapists. Purpose (“Dharma”) is explored from the client’s own worldview, values, culture, and beliefs. The therapist should not impose spiritual, religious, or philosophical interpretations. The focus is on helping clients discover personally meaningful directions that support psychological wellbeing and life satisfaction.

Part 1 – Welcome

“Welcome back.

During the past four sessions you have developed awareness…

learned acceptance…

begun emotional healing…

and transformed unhealthy patterns of thinking.

Today we move toward something deeply meaningful.

Today we begin discovering your Dharma.

Your purpose.

Your authentic path.

Purpose is not something you suddenly find hidden somewhere.

It is something you gradually uncover by understanding yourself more deeply.

As you heal…

your purpose becomes clearer.

As fear becomes quieter…

your authentic self becomes easier to hear.”

Part 2 – Psychoeducation

Discuss the following concepts:

What Is Dharma?

Dharma may be understood as:

  • Living according to your deepest values.
  • Becoming the person you choose to be.
  • Using your strengths in meaningful ways.
  • Contributing positively to others.
  • Living with integrity and purpose.

Purpose is not defined only by career or achievement; it is reflected in everyday choices, relationships, and actions.

The Six Elements of Purpose

Explore:

  • Values
  • Meaning
  • Strengths
  • Direction
  • Contribution
  • Identity

Explain that these elements evolve throughout life and can be revisited as circumstances change.

Part 3 – Hypnotic Induction

“Please settle comfortably into your chair.

Allow your hands to rest peacefully.

Take a slow deep breath in…

and gently breathe out.

Again…

breathing in peace…

breathing out every unnecessary tension.

With every breath…

your body becomes more comfortable.

Your mind becomes quieter.

Your awareness becomes clearer.

Allow your eyes to close gently.

Imagine a warm golden light gently flowing over the top of your head.

This light represents wisdom.

Purpose.

Peace.

As it slowly moves downward…

your forehead softens…

your eyes relax…

your jaw loosens…

your shoulders release…

your arms become comfortably heavy…

your chest relaxes…

your breathing becomes slow and effortless…

your legs become peaceful…

your feet completely relaxed.

Every breath carries you deeper into calm awareness.”

(Pause)

Progressive Relaxation

“Imagine your entire body resting comfortably.

Every sound simply helps you relax more deeply.

Your breathing becomes smooth.

Natural.

Effortless.

Like gentle waves rolling upon a quiet shore.”

(Pause)

Deepening

“I shall now count slowly from ten down to one.

With every number…

your mind becomes calmer…

clearer…

more open to positive discovery.

10…

9…

8…

drifting comfortably…

7…

6…

peacefully deeper…

5…

safe…

4…

comfortable…

3…

calm…

2…

relaxed…

1…

deeply peaceful.”

The Path of Dharma

“Imagine standing at the beginning of a beautiful path.

This path represents your life.

The path stretches gently toward the horizon.

It feels welcoming.

Peaceful.

Full of possibility.

As you begin walking…

you notice six beautiful gardens.

Each garden represents an important part of your authentic life.”

(Pause)

Garden One — Values

“You enter the first garden.

Here everything that truly matters to you begins to appear.

Notice the people.

The experiences.

The qualities.

The principles.

Ask yourself gently:

What truly matters most to me?

What kind of person do I want to become?

What values guide my life?

Allow words to arise naturally.

Perhaps…

Kindness.

Integrity.

Love.

Wisdom.

Growth.

Service.

Courage.

Compassion.

Whatever appears is simply information.

Allow these values to become beautiful stones beneath your feet.

Every future step becomes supported by your values.”

(Pause)

Garden Two — Meaning

“You continue walking.

You arrive at the Garden of Meaning.

Here you notice moments from your life when you felt deeply alive.

Peaceful.

Connected.

Useful.

Fulfilled.

Ask yourself:

When do I feel most alive?

What experiences give my life meaning?

What brings genuine joy to my heart?

Notice whatever quietly appears.”

(Pause)

Garden Three — Strengths

“You now enter the Garden of Strengths.

Beautiful trees surround you.

Each tree represents one of your strengths.

Some strengths are already fully grown.

Others are still developing.

Notice qualities such as:

Patience.

Creativity.

Wisdom.

Compassion.

Persistence.

Curiosity.

Resilience.

Leadership.

Humility.

Generosity.

Take a moment to appreciate your strengths.

You do not need perfection to possess great strength.

Growth itself is a strength.”

(Pause)

Garden Four — Direction

“As you continue…

you arrive at the Garden of Direction.

In the distance you see several pathways.

Each represents possible futures.

There is no pressure.

Only curiosity.

Ask yourself:

What direction feels most authentic?

Which path aligns with my deepest values?

What kind of life would I be proud to live?

Notice whichever path gently attracts your attention.

Trust that clarity develops one step at a time.”

(Pause)

Garden Five — Contribution

“You continue walking.

You enter the Garden of Contribution.

You notice people whose lives become brighter because of your presence.

Perhaps through kindness.

Teaching.

Listening.

Creating.

Supporting.

Leading.

Healing.

Encouraging.

Ask yourself:

How would I like my life to make a positive difference?

What gifts can I share with others?

Notice the smiles.

The gratitude.

The connection.

Your life has value.

Your presence matters.”

(Pause)

Garden Six — Identity

“You now enter the final garden.

In its centre stands a beautiful mirror.

As you look into this mirror…

you do not see who others expected you to become.

You see your authentic self.

Wise.

Calm.

Compassionate.

Strong.

Resilient.

Growing.

Notice your expression.

Your posture.

Your confidence.

This is the person you are becoming.

Not through perfection…

but through authenticity.

Quietly say to yourself:

‘I choose to live according to my values.’

‘I trust my journey.’

‘I honour my strengths.’

‘I contribute with kindness.’

‘I become more fully myself every day.'”

(Pause)

Future-Self Visualization

“Now imagine travelling five years into the future.

You awaken one beautiful morning.

Notice where you live.

Notice how peaceful you feel.

Notice the work you are doing.

The people around you.

The relationships you have nurtured.

The contribution you are making.

Observe yourself living with integrity.

Purpose.

Balance.

Notice how your future self smiles warmly at you.

Your future self gently says:

‘Every small step mattered.

Keep following your values.

Trust yourself.

Continue growing.

The life you seek is created one choice at a time.’

Take a moment to absorb this wisdom.”

(Pause)

Purpose Integration

“As you stand beside your future self…

imagine receiving a beautiful lantern.

This lantern represents your Dharma.

Whenever life becomes uncertain…

this light reminds you of your values.

Your purpose.

Your strengths.

Your direction.

Your authentic identity.

This light always remains within you.”

(Pause)

Ego Strengthening

“Every day your purpose becomes clearer.

Every day you trust yourself more.

Every day your choices become increasingly aligned with your deepest values.

You become more confident.

More peaceful.

More compassionate.

You no longer compare your journey to others.

You simply continue becoming the person you were always capable of becoming.”

energy returning.

Post-Session Reflection

Invite the client to explore:

  • Which value stood out most clearly today?
  • What gave you the strongest sense of meaning?
  • Which personal strength surprised you?
  • How did your future self appear?
  • What message from your future self felt most significant?
  • What is one action you can take this week that reflects your purpose?

Help the client translate insights into realistic, values-based actions rather than expecting immediate life changes.

Weekly Homework

Daily Dharma Practice (10–15 Minutes)

Each morning:

  • Take three slow breaths.
  • Read your core values aloud.
  • Ask:
    • “What kind of person do I choose to be today?”
    • “What one action today reflects my values?”
  • Visualise your future self for two to three minutes before beginning your day.

Personal Dharma Journal

Reflect on the following questions during the week:

  1. What are my five most important values?
  2. When did I feel most alive this week?
  3. Which strengths did I use today?
  4. How did I contribute positively to someone else’s life?
  5. What choices reflected my authentic self?
  6. What one step can I take next week toward the future I envision?

Daily Purpose Affirmations

Repeat slowly each morning:

  • I live according to my deepest values.
  • My life has meaning and purpose.
  • I trust my inner wisdom.
  • My strengths continue to grow.
  • I contribute positively to the lives of others.
  • I honour my authentic self.
  • Every small step moves me toward the life I choose to create.

Session Outcome

By the completion of Session 5, clients should begin to:

  • Gain greater clarity about their core values and life direction.
  • Experience a stronger sense of meaning and purpose.
  • Recognise and appreciate their personal strengths.
  • Develop a healthier, more authentic personal identity.
  • Increase motivation to live consistently with their values.
  • Create a foundation for purposeful action that supports long-term psychological wellbeing.

This session serves as the transition from healing the past to intentionally creating the future. Subsequent sessions focus on integrating purpose into daily habits, relationships, resilience, and sustained personal growth so that the client’s Dharma becomes something they actively live rather than simply understand.
