The Self-Serving Bias

The self-serving bias is a tendency for people tend to give themselves credit for successes but lay the blame for failures on outside causes. When you do well on a project, you probably assume that it’s because you worked hard. But when things turn out badly, you are more likely to blame it on circumstances or bad luck.

The cognitive biases are common, but this is only one of the many biases that can affect your thinking. These biases collectively influence much of our thoughts and ultimately, decision making.

Many of our biases are inevitable. We simply don’t have the time to evaluate every thought in every decision for the presence of any bias.

“Now, imagine a small, isolated section of the garden, where only your own accomplishments and successes are highlighted. This section represents your Self-Serving Bias, where you’ve been attributing your successes to your own abilities and ignoring the role of others. Notice how this section seems narrow, confined, and limited.

“As you approach this section, imagine a gentle, soothing breeze blowing, rustling the leaves and opening up new paths. This breeze represents your inner desire for objectivity and humility. Feel the breeze growing stronger, blowing away the limitations and revealing a broader, more expansive view.

“Notice how the garden begins to transform, becoming more balanced, more nuanced, and more accurate. This process is gentle, yet powerful, and it’s happening at a deep, cellular level within you.”

Reframing and Reprocessing:

“As you continue to breathe in the peaceful energy of this garden, imagine that you’re reprocessing your thoughts, beliefs, and patterns. Notice how you’ve been attributing your successes to your own abilities and ignoring the role of others. Reframe these thoughts and patterns as opportunities for growth, learning, and improvement. See how you’ve been limiting yourself, and how you can break free from these constraints.

-Allow yourself to integrate this new perspective, this new sense of self. Feel empowered, confident, and humble. You’re not bound by your own biases; you’re free to see the world in a more objective, more balanced way.”

Anchoring and Future Pacing:

“Now, take a moment to anchor this feeling of objectivity, humility, and confidence. Imagine a bright, shining star in your heart, symbolizing your inner strength and resilience. Whenever you need to access this feeling, simply focus on this star, and allow its warmth and light to guide you.

“As you look to the future, imagine yourself approaching challenges with a clear, objective mindset, and acknowledging the role of others in your successes. See yourself being more humble, more open-minded, and more willing to learn from others. Feel the excitement and anticipation of creating a life that’s authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling.”

Closing:

“Take one final, deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine any remaining tension or stress leaving your body. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes, and take a moment to notice how you feel. Notice the shift in your body, the calm in your mind, and the sense of hope and possibility in your heart.

You can only change your direction when you are ready to deal with uncomfortable truths about your behavior.

For example, if you constantly blame others for your actions or mistakes, you aren’t in line with reality. Denying your own mistakes leads to you not working on them and as a result, you won’t improve your abilities.

Consistent self-reflection can help you make the most of the law of humility.

Here’s a hypnotherapy script to help align with The Karmic Law, Law of Humility:

Induction:

(Soothing music starts playing. The hypnotherapist’s calming voice guides the client into a relaxed state.)

Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, allow your body to relax, starting from the crown of your head, down to your toes. Feel your body sinking deeper into relaxation, like a soft feather bed supporting you.
