Dharma Therapy Healing with Clinical Hypnotherapy Session 2 of 6 (Acceptance)

Dharma Therapy Healing with Clinical Hypnotherapy™

Session 2: Acceptance

Full Professional Hypnotherapy Session

Theme: “Acceptance Opens the Door to Healing”

Duration: 60–90 Minutes

Primary Goal:
To help the client develop emotional acceptance, reduce resistance to difficult internal experiences, cultivate self-compassion, and strengthen psychological flexibility. The session uses clinical hypnotherapy, guided relaxation, and compassionate imagery to encourage a calmer, more accepting relationship with thoughts and emotions.

Clinical note: This script is intended as a professional template for trained hypnotherapists. It should be adapted to the client’s needs, therapeutic goals, culture, and preferences. Acceptance in this context does not mean approving of harmful situations or giving up on change. Rather, it means acknowledging present experiences without unnecessary struggle so that constructive action becomes possible.

Session Structure

  1. Welcome and Progress Review (10 minutes)
  2. Psychoeducation on Acceptance (10 minutes)
  3. Relaxation and Hypnotic Induction (10–15 minutes)
  4. Deepening (5–10 minutes)
  5. Therapeutic Acceptance Work (25–30 minutes)
  6. Future Integration (5–10 minutes)
  7. Reorientation (5 minutes)
  8. Debrief and Homework (10 minutes)

Part 1 – Welcome

“Welcome back.

Last week you began developing awareness.

You noticed your thoughts.

Your emotions.

Your habits.

Your behaviours.

Today we take the next important step.

Today we learn acceptance.

Acceptance is one of the greatest gifts you can offer yourself.

Acceptance is not giving up.

It is not agreeing that pain should exist.

It is not approving of hurtful experiences.

Acceptance simply means allowing yourself to recognise reality as it is in this moment, without adding unnecessary struggle.

When we stop fighting our emotions, we often discover that they become easier to understand and manage.”

Part 2 – Psychoeducation

Discuss the following concepts:

What Is Acceptance?

Acceptance means:

  • Recognising emotions as natural experiences.
  • Allowing thoughts to come and go without becoming controlled by them.
  • Reducing unnecessary resistance.
  • Responding with kindness rather than criticism.

What Acceptance Is Not

Acceptance is not:

  • Weakness.
  • Defeat.
  • Passive resignation.
  • Excusing harmful behaviour.
  • Remaining in unsafe situations.

Instead, acceptance creates the emotional space needed to make wise and intentional choices.

Part 3 – Hypnotic Induction

“Please settle into a comfortable position.

Allow your hands to rest naturally.

Take a slow deep breath in…

and gently breathe out.

Again…

breathing in peace…

breathing out tension.

Every breath invites greater comfort.

Every exhalation releases unnecessary effort.

Allow your eyelids to become comfortably heavy.

There is nothing you need to achieve.

Nothing to force.

Only this moment.

As your breathing becomes calm and effortless…

allow relaxation to spread gently from the top of your head…

across your forehead…

around your eyes…

through your jaw…

your neck…

your shoulders…

your arms…

your chest…

your abdomen…

your hips…

your legs…

all the way to the soles of your feet.”

(Pause)

“Each breath allows your body to soften.

Each moment allows your mind to become quieter.

You are safe.

You are comfortable.

You are becoming deeply relaxed.”

Progressive Relaxation

“Imagine every muscle becoming lighter.

Every thought becoming quieter.

Like leaves floating gently down a peaceful stream.

Nothing needs to be pushed away.

Everything can simply pass naturally.”

(Pause)

Deepening

“I will now count slowly from ten down to one.

With every number…

your body relaxes more deeply.

Your breathing becomes slower.

Your mind becomes calmer.

10…

9…

8…

drifting peacefully…

7…

6…

letting go…

5…

comfortable…

4…

deeper still…

3…

quiet…

2…

peaceful…

1…

deeply relaxed.”

Safe Sanctuary Imagery

“Imagine yourself entering a beautiful sanctuary.

A place where you feel completely safe.

Perhaps it is a peaceful garden.

A quiet forest.

A mountain meadow.

A calm beach.

Or somewhere known only to you.

This is your place of complete acceptance.

Nothing here judges you.

Nothing here criticises you.

You are welcomed exactly as you are.”

(Pause)

Therapeutic Acceptance Work

Accepting Thoughts

“As you sit peacefully in this sanctuary…

notice your thoughts.

Do not try to stop them.

Do not chase them.

Simply notice them.

Imagine each thought becoming a soft cloud floating across a blue sky.

Some clouds are large.

Some are small.

Some pass quickly.

Others linger for a while.

Every cloud eventually moves on.

Every thought eventually changes.

You are the sky.

Your thoughts are simply passing clouds.”

(Pause)

Accepting Emotions

“Now gently become aware of your emotions.

Perhaps there is peace.

Perhaps sadness.

Perhaps joy.

Perhaps uncertainty.

Whatever you notice…

allow yourself to say quietly:

‘I notice this feeling.’

‘I allow this feeling to be here.’

‘I do not need to fight this feeling.’

Every emotion is information.

Not an enemy.

Not your identity.

Simply a visitor.”

(Pause)

Releasing Resistance

“Imagine carrying a heavy backpack.

Inside are struggles you have carried for a long time.

Perhaps worry.

Fear.

Regret.

Self-criticism.

Notice how heavy it feels.

Now imagine gently placing the backpack beside you.

Not because your experiences disappear.

But because you no longer need to carry them every moment.

Feel your body becoming lighter.

Your breathing becoming easier.

Your mind becoming calmer.”

(Pause)

Developing Self-Compassion

“Imagine someone who loves you without conditions.

Someone who sees your strengths.

Who understands your struggles.

Notice how they look at you.

Notice the kindness in their eyes.

Now imagine hearing these words:

You are worthy of kindness.

You are doing the best you can with what you know today.

You deserve patience.

You deserve understanding.

You deserve healing.

Now imagine those words becoming your own inner voice.

Allow yourself to repeat quietly:

‘I choose kindness.’

‘I choose patience.’

‘I choose compassion.’

‘I accept myself as a growing human being.’

(Pause)

Psychological Flexibility

“Imagine standing beside a flowing river.

Notice how the water moves around every obstacle.

The river does not fight the rocks.

It simply flows.

Flexible.

Strong.

Calm.

You too can become like this river.

Able to adapt.

Able to bend without breaking.

Able to respond wisely to life’s changing circumstances.

Every experience becomes an opportunity to learn.

Every challenge becomes an opportunity to grow.”

(Pause)

Acceptance of the Present Moment

“Now notice this moment.

Nothing else is required.

No past.

No future.

Only this peaceful present.

Allow yourself to say quietly:

‘I accept this moment.’

‘I allow myself to be present.’

‘I release the need to control everything.’

‘I trust my ability to respond wisely.’

(Pause)

Ego Strengthening

“As acceptance grows…

inner peace grows.

As compassion grows…

confidence grows.

As flexibility grows…

resilience grows.

Every day you become calmer.

Gentler with yourself.

More patient.

More understanding.

You no longer need to be perfect.

You only need to continue growing.

Your worth has never depended upon perfection.

Your worth has always existed.”

Future Pacing

“Imagine yourself during the coming week.

Perhaps something unexpected happens.

Instead of immediately reacting…

you pause.

You breathe.

You notice your emotions.

You respond with kindness.

You accept what cannot be changed in that moment.

You choose the next helpful step.

Notice how peaceful that feels.

This calm acceptance becomes easier each day.”

Therapeutic Suggestions

“From today forward…

  • You become increasingly accepting of your emotions without judging yourself.
  • You notice difficult thoughts without becoming overwhelmed by them.
  • You treat yourself with greater patience and compassion.
  • You become more emotionally flexible and resilient.
  • You remember that feelings are temporary experiences.
  • You choose thoughtful responses instead of automatic reactions.
  • You become more peaceful with each passing day.

These suggestions support your goals and remain under your control. You will accept only those that are consistent with your wellbeing and intentions.”

Reorientation

“In a few moments…

I shall count from one to five.

Returning with clarity.

Confidence.

Calmness.

1…

bringing awareness back.

2…

feeling refreshed.

3…

energy returning.

4…

taking a comfortable deep breath.

5…

eyes open…

fully awake…

calm…

alert…

feeling peaceful.”

Post-Session Discussion

Invite the client to reflect on questions such as:

  • What did you notice when you allowed emotions to be present without trying to change them?
  • Which part of today’s imagery felt most meaningful?
  • How did it feel to practise self-compassion?
  • What situations in daily life might benefit from greater acceptance rather than resistance?
  • What is one small way you can respond to yourself with kindness this week?

Emphasise that acceptance is an ongoing skill developed through practice and does not eliminate difficult emotions, but can change how people relate to them.

Weekly Homework

Daily Acceptance Practice (10–15 minutes)

  • Sit quietly and notice your breathing for five minutes.
  • When a thought or emotion arises, gently label it (for example, “sadness,” “worry,” or “frustration”) without judging it.
  • Practise responding with a compassionate statement such as, “This is difficult, and I can meet this moment with kindness.”
  • At the end of each day, write down one situation in which you paused before reacting and one thing you accepted that was outside your immediate control.

Reflection Questions

  1. Which emotions did I find easiest to accept?
  2. Which emotions did I resist?
  3. How did self-compassion influence my day?
  4. When did I notice myself becoming more flexible instead of reacting automatically?
  5. What did acceptance allow me to do differently?
  6. What is one intention I will carry into next week?

Session Outcome

By the end of Session 2, the client should begin to:

  • Accept thoughts and emotions without excessive judgement.
  • Reduce unnecessary resistance to difficult internal experiences.
  • Develop a kinder and more compassionate relationship with themselves.
  • Strengthen psychological flexibility and resilience.
  • Build a calmer foundation for the deeper emotional healing and cognitive transformation that follow in later sessions of the Dharma Therapy Healing with Clinical Hypnotherapy™ programme.

Part 1 – Welcome

“Welcome.

Today we begin your Dharma Therapy Healing journey.

There is nothing you need to force.

Nothing you need to prove.

Today is simply about becoming aware.

Awareness is the beginning of every meaningful change.

When we become aware, we begin to understand ourselves with greater honesty, curiosity, and compassion.

Today’s session is not about changing who you are.

It is about discovering who you already are beneath the stress, habits, worries, and expectations.”

Discuss:

  • What awareness means.
  • How automatic thoughts influence emotions.
  • How emotions influence behaviours.
  • How behaviours become habits.
  • How habits shape identity.
  • The role of focused attention in hypnosis.
  • Explain that hypnosis is a state of relaxed, focused awareness rather than sleep or loss of control.

Part 3 – Hypnotic Induction

“Please make yourself comfortable.

Allow your hands to rest naturally.

Allow your eyes to gently close whenever you feel ready.

Take a slow deep breath in…

and slowly breathe out.

Again…

breathing in calm…

breathing out tension.

With every breath your body becomes heavier…

more relaxed.

Imagine a gentle wave of relaxation beginning at the top of your head.

all the way down to your feet.

Nothing to do.

Nothing to fix.

Simply becoming aware.”

(Pause)

Progressive Relaxation

“With every breath…

Every breath becomes slower.

More peaceful.

More natural.

Allow your mind to become quiet…

like a calm lake at sunrise.”

(Pause)

“I will now count slowly from ten down to one.

With every number…

allow yourself to drift comfortably deeper into relaxation.

deeply relaxed…

fully aware…

completely comfortable.”

Safe Place Imagery

“Imagine yourself standing in a beautiful peaceful place.

Perhaps it is beside a quiet lake.

Perhaps it is a peaceful forest.

A beach.

A mountain meadow.

Or somewhere completely unique to you.

Notice the colours.

The sounds.

The gentle breeze.

The temperature.

Feel completely safe.

Completely relaxed.

Completely accepted.”

(Pause)

Therapeutic Awareness Work

Awareness of Thoughts

“In this peaceful place…

imagine your thoughts floating gently across the sky like soft clouds.

Some are light.

Some are heavy.

You do not need to chase them.

You do not need to stop them.

Simply notice them.

Allow them to pass naturally.

Each thought is simply information.

Not a command.

Not your identity.

Just something passing through awareness.”

(Pause)

Awareness of Emotions

“Now become aware of your emotions.

Notice what feelings are present today.

There is no right emotion.

There is no wrong emotion.

Whatever is here…

is welcome.

Observe your emotions with kindness.

Like watching gentle waves rise and fall upon the ocean.”

(Pause)

Awareness of Habits

“Imagine seeing your daily life from above.

Notice your routines.

Notice the habits that support your wellbeing.

Notice the habits that no longer serve you.

Observe them without criticism.

Awareness creates choice.”

Awareness of Behaviour

“Notice how you respond to challenges.

Notice your reactions.

Notice your decisions.

Simply observe.

You are becoming the compassionate observer of your own life.”

Awareness of Relationships

“Now gently bring to mind the important people in your life.

Notice how each relationship feels.

Without judging anyone…

simply notice.

Who brings peace?

Who encourages growth?

Where do you feel safe?

Where might healthier boundaries be needed?

Observe with wisdom and compassion.”

Awareness of Personal Values

“Imagine before you a gentle light representing your deepest values.

Ask yourself:

What truly matters to me?

What kind of person do I wish to become?

What qualities do I want to live by?

Allow whatever comes to arise naturally.

There is no need to force an answer.”

(Pause)

Awareness of Life Direction

“Imagine standing on a gentle path stretching into the distance.

This path represents your life.

Notice where you are today.

Notice the direction you are travelling.

Ask yourself quietly:

Am I living according to what truly matters?

What small step would move me toward a more meaningful life?

Simply allow an answer to emerge if it does.”

(Pause)

Ego Strengthening

“As your awareness grows…

your confidence grows.

Your wisdom grows.

Your understanding grows.

Every day you become more aware.

More peaceful.

More intentional.

More compassionate toward yourself.

Awareness brings clarity.

Clarity brings freedom.

Freedom allows healthy choices.

Healthy choices create meaningful change.”

Future Pacing

“Imagine yourself waking tomorrow morning.

You notice your thoughts more clearly.

You recognise your emotions with greater calm.

You pause before reacting.

You make one small choice that reflects your values.

Notice how that feels.

Every day awareness becomes easier.

Every day you grow.”

  • You feel motivated to make small, values-based choices each day.

These suggestions support your goals and remain under your control. You will accept only those that are consistent with your wellbeing and intentions.”

“In a few moments…

I shall count from one up to five.

With every number…

you return feeling refreshed…

clear…

calm…

comfortable.

1…

bringing awareness back.

2…

energy returning.

3…

feeling lighter.

4…

taking a deep refreshing breath.

5…

eyes open…

fully awake…

calm…

alert…

feeling refreshed.”

  • What stood out most during today’s session?
  • Did any thoughts, emotions, or images feel particularly meaningful?
  • Was there anything surprising about what you noticed?
  • Is there one insight you would like to carry into the coming week?

Validate the client’s experience without assuming that every image or feeling has a specific meaning.

  • Check in with your emotions and name what you are feeling.
