A “people pleaser” personality means a person feels a strong urge to please others, even at their own expense. They may feel that their wants and needs do not matter or alter their personality around others.
Here’s a hypnotherapy script to help individuals give up trying to please everyone:
Induction
(Soothing music starts playing. The hypnotherapist’s voice is calm and gentle.)
Hypnotherapist: “Welcome to this session, where you’ll let go of the need to please everyone and cultivate a more authentic, confident self. Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down, and take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Allow yourself to relax, feeling the weight of your body supported by the surface beneath you.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “Imagine yourself standing in a peaceful, serene environment, surrounded by calming sounds and soothing colors. The sun is shining, and a gentle breeze rustles the leaves of the trees. With each breath, feel your body relax further, letting go of any tension or stress.”
Deepening
Hypnotherapist: “Now, imagine yourself walking along a winding path, feeling the soft earth beneath your feet. With each step, allow yourself to relax deeper, sinking into a state of tranquility. As you breathe in, imagine fresh, clean air filling your lungs, and as you breathe out, imagine any worries or concerns leaving your body.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “As you continue walking, notice the sound of a gentle stream running through the landscape. Allow this soothing sound to calm your mind, quieting any thoughts or distractions. You’re becoming more relaxed, more focused, and more receptive to positive suggestions.”
People-Pleasing Pattern Releasing Section
Hypnotherapist: “Now, bring to mind a situation where you’ve tried to please everyone, even if it meant compromising your own needs or desires. Allow yourself to remember the feelings and thoughts associated with that experience.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “Notice how trying to please everyone may have left you feeling drained, resentful, or unfulfilled. Recognize the people-pleasing pattern, the need for validation, and the fear of rejection or criticism.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “Today, you’re choosing to release the need to please everyone. Imagine the weight of people-pleasing lifting off your shoulders, like a burden being removed. As you breathe out, repeat the phrase, ‘I let go of trying to please everyone,’ allowing those words to become a powerful affirmation in your mind.”
Self-Confidence and Authenticity Section
Hypnotherapist: “Now, imagine yourself standing in a place of confidence and self-assurance. You’re no longer seeking validation from others, but instead, you’re trusting your own inner guidance and intuition. Feel a sense of self-trust and self-worth arising within you, knowing that you’re enough, just as you are.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “Imagine yourself setting healthy boundaries, prioritizing your own needs, and choosing relationships that honor and respect your authenticity. You’re cultivating a sense of self-love and self-acceptance, knowing that you deserve to be treated with kindness, compassion, and respect.”
Future Pacing
Hypnotherapist: “As you move forward in your life, imagine yourself in various situations where you might be tempted to people-please. But instead, you recall the feeling of self-confidence and authenticity that you’ve cultivated during this session. You remember the phrase, ‘I let go of trying to please everyone,’ and you choose to prioritize your own needs, set healthy boundaries, and trust your own inner guidance.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “You’re creating a new pattern, a new habit of thinking and behaving. You’re becoming more self-aware, more self-regulated, and more in control of your choices. You’re unlocking your full potential and achieving your goals with greater ease and confidence.”
Counting Up and Awakening
Hypnotherapist: “It’s time to return to the present moment, feeling refreshed, renewed, and empowered. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine yourself becoming more alert, more focused. When I count to five, you’ll open your eyes, feeling refreshed and ready to take on new challenges.”
(Pause for a few seconds)
Hypnotherapist: “One… two… three… four… five. Open your eyes, and welcome back to the present moment. Take a deep breath, and remember the feeling of self-confidence and authenticity that you’ve cultivated during this session. Carry this sense of confidence and self-awareness with you, and watch your relationships transform in amazing ways.”
Post-Hypnotic Suggestion
Hypnotherapist: “From this day forward, you’ll find yourself naturally prioritizing your own needs, setting healthy boundaries, and trusting your own inner guidance. You’ll remember that you deserve to be treated with kindness, respect, and compassion, and you’ll choose relationships that honor and celebrate your true worth. Remember, you are enough, just as you are, and you’ll attract relationships that reflect your self-worth and self-love.”
