Healing and Repairing the Emotional Body after years of Lying

Healing and repairing the emotional body after years of lying is not just about changing behaviour – it’s about retraining the nervous system, releasing shame, and learning to feel safe in truth. I’ll walk you through what healing looks like, how it feels, and what changes internally as honesty becomes embodied.

1. What Lying Does to the Emotional Body

Over time, chronic lying creates a split inside:

Outer self = performance, protection, image management

Inner self = fear, shame, unmet needs, grief

Emotionally, this often leads to:

  • Constant background anxiety
  • Tight chest or stomach
  • Hypervigilance (“Will I be found out?”)
  • Emotional numbness or emptiness
  • Shame loops (“Something is wrong with me”)
  • Disconnection from God, self, and others

The emotional body learns:

“Truth is dangerous. I survive by hiding.”

Healing reverses this belief.

2. The First Phase of Healing: Safety Before Honesty

Before honesty feels good, it feels terrifying.

Early sensations often include:

  • Shaking, sweating, racing heart
  • A sense of exposure or vulnerability
  • Fear of rejection or abandonment
  • Grief for the years spent hiding

This is not failure – it is your nervous system thawing.

What’s happening emotionally:

  • Frozen emotions begin to move
  • Suppressed guilt and sadness surface

The body tests: “Am I safe now?”

Key truth:

Honesty initially hurts because lying protected pain. Healing means feeling what was once avoided.

3. Emotional Repair: Reintegrating the Split Self

As you practice truth (gently, imperfectly), something profound occurs:

Emotional Shifts:

  • Anxiety decreases after truth is spoken
  • Relief replaces dread
  • Emotional clarity improves
  • Self-respect slowly returns
  • Shame softens into humility
  • Tears come more easily – and cleanly

The emotional body relearns:

“I can be seen and survive.”

You begin to feel whole, not fragmented.

4. What Honesty Starts to Feel Like Over Time

As healing deepens, honesty feels less like effort and more like alignment.

New emotional sensations:

  • Lightness in the chest
  • Calm in the gut
  • Grounded presence
  • Emotional congruence (inside matches outside)
  • Increased capacity for intimacy
  • A quiet confidence, not arrogance

You stop rehearsing stories. You stop managing impressions. You stop living ahead of the moment.

Instead, you feel rooted.

5. The Death of Shame (This Is Huge)

Shame says:

“I am bad.”

Truth says:

“I am human, and I choose light.”

As honesty becomes embodied:

  • Shame loses its grip
  • Guilt transforms into responsibility
  • Self-condemnation becomes self-compassion
  • You no longer need to punish yourself

This is emotional resurrection.

6. Spiritual & Emotional Integration (Faith Lens)

From a faith-based perspective:

  • Lying fragments the soul
  • Truth reunites it

Scripture aligns with nervous system healing:

“The truth shall set you free” — not instantly, but progressively

Emotionally, honesty:

  • Restores peace with God
  • Restores integrity with self
  • Restores trust with others

You stop hiding from God – and discover He was never the threat.

7. What a Healed Emotional Body Feels Like

When emotional repair has taken root, people often say:

  • “I can breathe again.”
  • “I don’t feel like I’m performing.”
  • “I trust myself.”
  • “I feel calm even when I make mistakes.”
  • “I don’t need to lie anymore – I don’t need protection.”

This is emotional sobriety.

8. A Gentle Truth to End With

Healing does not mean:

  • Never lying again
  • Being brutally honest
  • Exposing everything at once

Healing means:

  • Choosing truth faster
  • Repairing when you fail
  • Staying present instead of hiding

Each honest moment rewires the emotional body.

Allow Acceptance for your Actions of Guilt and Shame link to Lying with Hypnotherapy

Guilt and shame link to lying in complex ways: for many, they are a deterrent to lying, as the discomfort of these emotions makes people avoid dishonesty.

Here’s a sample hypnotherapy script that addresses feelings of guilt and shame related to lying, and promotes acceptance and personal growth:

Title: Acceptance and Release from Guilt and Shame

Introduction:

(Soothing music starts playing. The hypnotherapist’s voice is calm and gentle.)

Hypnotherapist: “Welcome to this hypnotherapy session. Allow yourself to settle in, get comfortable, and take a deep breath in… and out… Feel the weight of your body on the chair, the sensation of the air on your skin, and the sound of my voice guiding you through this process. You’ve taken a brave step by acknowledging your actions and seeking help.

Remember, this is a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your feelings and work towards healing and growth.”

Induction:

“Close your eyes and take another deep breath in… As you exhale, imagine any tension or stress leaving your body. Imagine yourself standing at the top of a staircase, with each step leading you deeper into relaxation. With each step, feel your body becoming heavier, more relaxed, and more open to positive change. Take 5-7 steps down, and with each step, repeat the phrase ‘I let go’ to yourself.”

Deepening:

“Imagine yourself in a peaceful, safe place. This could be a beach, a forest, or any place that feels comfortable and relaxing to you. Take a moment to notice the sights, sounds, and sensations in this place. Feel the ground beneath your feet, the air on your skin, and the sense of calm in your heart. As you breathe in, imagine fresh, calming energy entering your body. As you breathe out, imagine any remaining tension or stress leaving your body.”

Addressing Guilt and Shame:

“Now, bring to mind the experience of lying. Allow yourself to acknowledge the feelings of guilt and shame that arise.

Notice where these feelings reside in your body. Is it in your chest, your stomach, or somewhere else?

Imagine these feelings as a cloud or a colour in your body. As you breathe in, imagine fresh, calming energy entering this cloud or colour. As you breathe out, imagine the cloud or colour beginning to dissipate, releasing the guilt and shame from your body.

Remember, that you are not defined by this one action, and you have the capacity to learn and grow from it.”

Releasing Guilt and Shame:

“Repeat the following phrase to yourself, allowing the words to sink deeply into your mind and heart: ‘I acknowledge my mistake, and I release the guilt and shame associated with it. I understand that I was trying to protect myself or others, but I also recognize the harm that lying can cause. I choose to learn from my experience, take responsibility for my actions, and work towards building trust and integrity in my relationships.’ As you repeat this phrase, imagine the cloud or colour in your body continuing to dissipate, releasing any remaining guilt and shame.”

Acceptance and Self-Compassion:

“Now, imagine a warm, comforting light filling your body. This light represents acceptance, self-compassion, and understanding. As you breathe in, imagine this light nourishing your heart and mind. As you breathe out, imagine any self-criticism or self-doubt leaving your body.

Repeat the following phrase to yourself, allowing the words to become a part of your inner dialogue: ‘I am enough, exactly as I am. I am worthy of love, compassion, and forgiveness – from myself and others.’

Remember, that everyone makes mistakes, and it’s how we learn and grow from them that matters.”

Integration and Closure:

“Take a moment to notice how you’re feeling now. Notice any shifts in your body or your emotional state. Imagine yourself integrating the insights and releases from this session into your daily life. As you breathe in, imagine fresh energy and positivity entering your body. As you breathe out, imagine any remaining challenges or difficulties leaving your body. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes, and take a deep breath in, feeling refreshed, renewed, and more at peace.

Remember to be gentle and kind to yourself, as you continue on your journey of healing and growth.”

Post-Hypnotic Suggestion:

“Remember, you can return to this peaceful, safe place whenever you need to. Whenever you feel overwhelmed or challenged, take a deep breath in, and repeat the phrase ‘I am enough, exactly as I am.’ Allow yourself to release any guilt, shame, or self-criticism, and instead, cultivate self-compassion, empathy, and kindness – towards yourself and others. And when you’re ready, consider making amends or taking steps to rebuild trust in your relationships, if that feels right for you.”

This script is meant to be a sample and can be modified to suit the specific needs and circumstances of the individual. It’s essential to work with a trained hypnotherapist who can tailor the script and provide a safe, supportive environment for the client to process their emotions and work through their challenges.
